East Wind Tea Company is proud to participate in the selling of the award winning, limited production, St. James Estate tea. A competition sponsored by the Sri Lanka Tea Board was held at the World Tea Expo on June 1 in Las Vegas, NV. This extraordinary tea won the Overall Award in the High Grown Category. The first auction in the United States of Sri Lankan tea took place following the judging. The winning bidder was Pearl Dexter, Editor and Publisher of Tea: A Magazine.
A Sri Lankan Charity Tea Event in early September was held at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel hosted by Pearl Dexter and Cynthia Gold, Tea Sommelier. Curtis Vouwie, President of East Wind Tea Company, was the winning bidder for four ounces of the St. James Estate tea, the very first to be made available in the United States. His bid of $100 put a value of $400 for one pound of this very special tea. At Pearl’s request, seventy-five per cent of the profits from the sale of the tea will be donated to assist victims of the Sri Lankan tsunami and to the American Red Cross to help those in the U.S. affected by disasters. For more information about the tea event please see the Autumn 2008 edition of Tea: A Magazine.
This tea from the St. James Estate has a fresh aroma, a sweet, fruity taste, and a particularly smooth quality that cups to a brilliant amber color.
The award winning St. James Estate tea is available for purchase now in four ounce packages from East Wind Tea Company.
